GROWTH AND POSSIBILITIES FOR THE GROWTH OF THE VEHICLE OWNERSHIP IN THE NETHERLANDS TILL 2010; AN EVALUATION ON THE BASIS OF INTERNATIONAL COMPARISONS
GROEI EN GROEIMOGELIJKHEDEN PERSONENAUTOPARK IN NEDERLAND TOT 2010 EEN EVALUATIE OP BASIS VAN INTERNATIONALE VERGELIJKINGEN
The objectives of this study are to determine: (1) the number of new car sales per year that can be reasonably expected between 1990 and 2010, taking the results of international comparisons into account; (2) what change in the average life expectancy of cars can be expected in the Netherlands over the next 25 years; (3) how these two developments affect one another, and to what extent; (4) how reasonable is the prognosis that car parking requirements will reach 8 million by the year 2010; and (5) what conclusions can these analyses provide. In order to carry out these objectives, the factors determining the growth of car ownership are analysed, as are statistics from 14 countries giving details of the growth and growth rate of car sales and car parks over a number of years.
