ROAD CRASH RISKS OF AUSTRALIANS ---ROAD SAFETY RESEARCHERS CONFERENCE, PROCEEDINGS, CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA, 18-19 OCTOBER 1988

The national mass data system (nmds) currently consists of the fatal file and the travel file. Details of each fatal road crash in Australia between 1981 and 1985 are recorded in the fatal file. These details include the circumstances surrounding the crash, descriptions of the vehicles involved and information on each person involved in the crash. As a computer database, each piece of information can be manipulated freely to obtain a more accurate picture of the nature of fatal crashes. This paper provides the relative fatal crash risks for each road user group using information from the fatal file. The paper consists entirely of graphical presentations of the information. The graphs provide an analysis by age, sex, time of day and day of week.
