STATE OF OREGON BICYCLE MASTER PLAN

The primary purpose of this master plan is to give direction and guidance to the Oregon Department of Transportation Highway Division's Bicycle Program. It also serves to provide uniform guidance for local government bicycle programs. The first four chapters provide background information, covering Oregon's bicycling environment, pioneer bicycle laws, administrative organization, and bicycle facility funding sources. Chapter 5 presents the goals and objectives of the Oregon Bicycle Program, Chapter 6 the expenditure priorities, and Chapter 7 designated bicycle routes. Chapters 8 through 11 provide information on bikeway design and operation, including basic design standards, signing and striping, operation and maintenance, and safety, education and enforcement. Appendices A through G provide additional information, such as Oregon's laws pertaining to bicycles, bicycle expenditures in FY 1983-87, policy on eligible bikeway charges, and guidelines for parallel routes.
