REMOTE SENSING IN SEISMOTECTONIC PROBLEMS ---PROCEEDINGS OF THE FIFTH INTERNATIONAL CONGRWESS, INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ENGINEERING GEOLOGY, 20-25 OCTOBER 1986, BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA. VOLUMES 1, 2 AND 3.
The objective of this paper is to show the remote sensing analysis methodology used in large areas for the detection of neotectonic anomalies. The first step is to determine the pattern and regional trends of the dominant sets of alignments, and to prepare an iso-alignment map of the area in order to obtain structural data to identify the systems of forces that have yielded those anomalies. For this work a mosaic landsat imagery at scale 1:100000 in band 7 and FCC in 1:250000 are used. The second step is to prepare a schematic geologic map of the region, and a map of meso, macro and megatraces (alignments). A correlation is done over places covered by conventional geologic surveys, and then every datum is extrapolated to unknown areas supported by satellite imagery interpretation. Every set of alignment data (strike and length) is processed by means of digital table and computer, getting circular histograms and isodensity curves. For regional patterns a detailed field survey is also carried out. Once the neotectonic anomalies were precisely defined, a detailed field geologic recognition and low angle sun aerial photographs are done.
