HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN GEOTECHNICS ---COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING. PROCEEDINGS OF A SYMPOSIUM, UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, APRIL 1986

This present review considers the range of computer hardware of use for meaningful geotechnical analysis and data processing in relation to the types of problem to be solved and the software available for solving it. Opinions on software design are expressed. Hardware developments described include array processors, workstations and networking. Finally, examples of "cheap" and "expensive" calculations of practical importance are briefly described. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 815626.
