DURFLEX: UN MODIFICATEUR RHEOLOGIQUE DES BITUMES ET DES CONGLOMERATS BITUMINEUX

Duraflex is a patented product which has accurately been tested in the laboratory in bituminous mixes. The influence on the characteristics of a 180/200 bitumen where 20% durflex has been added is described as regards the penetration at 25 deg c, penetration index and fraass breaking point. A bituminous mix, prepared in the laboratory with bitumen and 20% added durflex gave increased Marshall stiffness values which have been fully confirmed in practice. After laboratory tests, the products have been used to prepare bituminous mixes in a plant. The asphalt mix, laid with a vibratory finishing machine and rolled by a sufficiently heavy roller, gave on average better results than in laboratory tests. Durflex is a powered material which can be introduced into the plant mixer. On the basis of results obtained, durflex may be regarded as an additive of interest in road and building construction.
