AN INTRODUCTION TO AIR BRAKES

This booklet describes with the aid of diagrams, the principal air brake systems manufactured by Bendix Westinghouse Ltd, for use on commercial vehicles. A general description of air brake design and the function of the main groups of components are given followed by a detailed description of each of the different systems produced. These systems are the single straight air brake, dual truck, three line tractor, three line trailer, spring on brake-truck, spring brake-tractor, eec truck, eec towing track or tractor, eec two line trailer system, eec tractor, and the scania spring brake-tractor. The booklet concludes with A list of daily checks which may be carried out by drivers or workshop staff. /TRRL/
