A STUDY OF THE ACCIDENT INVOLVEMENT AND EXPOSURE TO RISK OF CHILD PEDESTRIANS ON JOURNEYS TO AND FROM SCHOOL IN URBAN AREAS --ROAD USER BEHAVIOR. THEORY AND RESEARCH. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ROAD SAFETY HELD IN GRONINGEN, NETHERLANDS, AUGUST 1987
The work described in this paper forms part of a wider study of the road accident involvement and exposure to risk of child pedestrians, which was undertaken in five urban areas in England. The five areas were parts of bradford, Bristol, nelson, reading and Sheffield. Further information on the wider study can be gained from tight (1987). The specific aim of the work described here was to examine the road accident involvement and exposure to risk of child pedestrians on journeys to and from school, and from these to estimate accident risk to different groups of children at different times of the day and in different locations. This chapter is split into three main sections. The first briefly summarizes the methods by which data were collected, the second lists the main results of the study, and the third outlines the main conclusions and gives some recommendations for preventative measures drawn from these.(a) for the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 815404.
