CORROSION RESISTANCE OF EPOXY COATED BARS --PROCEEDINGS OF THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DETERIORATION AND REPAIR OF REINFORCED CONCRETE IN THE ARABIAN GULF, BAHRAIN, OCTOBER 11-13, 1987. VOLS 1 AND 2
The corrosion resistance of plain, galvanized and epoxy coated reinforcing bars is presented. The bars were embedded in concrete prisms, and precracked and subjected to natural exposure in a tidal zone, and to an accelerated cyclic wetting and drying regime in sea water. The variables were the epoxy film thickness and depth of cover. The specimens were tested in a loaded condition. Even a 70 mm cover was inadequate to protect uncoated bars from corrosion. Galvanized bars exhibited improved performance but did not provide complete protection. It is shown that epoxy coatings of 200-300 mu m thickness with adequate cover ensured long term protection of steel.(a) for the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 813594.
