INTERURBAN ROADS AND MOTORWAYS. REPORT FROM YUGOSLAVIA --PIARC XVIII WORLD ROAD CONGRESS, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, SEPTEMBER 13-19, 1987

The yugoslav contribution to question IV "interurban roads and motorways" consists of two papers by: -dr ivo lozic, bsc: the project of the European road e-59 section -dr vera mijuskovic, bsc: mathematical methods for the description of events from the point of view of overtaking. The 1St contribution from Yugoslavia deals with the preparation of technical documents for the European road e-59 section in the region of dalmatia in Yugoslavia, including the coastal part of the region and the hinterland area, allowing a link between the cities of split and knin. During the preparation of the preliminary project, the results of town planning studies, feasibility studies and the economic analyses for the designed traffic were taken into account. When defining the corridor, the computer program for the "road" system was applied. It was also used for all design works such as longitudinal sections, cross-sections, structure design, etc. Special emphasis is given in the project to the ecological and aesthetic aspects of the area crossed by this particular road. In the 2nd paper an attempt is made to complete the mathematical methods used for the accurate description of events related to overtaking. Methods known so far represent more or less the intermediate solutions between micro-and macrosimulation. The distribution of the distance required for visibility is fixed as well as overtaking possibilities for various oncoming traffic flows and various traffic compositions. The proportion of overtaking vehicles in free flow is also fixed. The cumulated distribution mentioned should serve as a basis for the evaluation of the minimum required values. The system allows a selective observation of traffic composition taking into account the designed gradient. Depending on the economic analyses and other data, 95, 90 or 85 percent of the requirements will be met. For the covering abstracts of the congress see IRRD 812115 and 812116.
