CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF RIGID PAVEMENTS. REPORT FROM POLAND --PIARC XVIII WORLD ROAD CONGRESS, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, SEPTEMBER 13-19, 1987

This report deals only with concrete pavements on low-traffic roads. Since 1983, after a break of several years, concrete pavements have again started to be constructed in poland. It is envisaged that the rate of concrete pavement construction will increase significantly in the near future. Nowadays, the concrete pavements on low-traffic roads are being constructed as short unreinforced slabs without dowels. The width of pavement is 3.50 m or 2x3.0 m. The shoulders of 2x1.0 m width are hardened with crushed limestone on 0.75 width. The thickness of concrete slabs, constructed in one layer is 4-18 cm. The sub-base for these pavements are cement-stabilized of mechanically stabilized soils with an average thickness of 14 cm. Existing crushed stone macadam or slag pavements are used as sub-bases too. The construction joints are formed in fresh concrete. The joints are sealed using hot-poured sealing compounds. On agriculture roads the concrete pavements are constructed by hand and mechanical methods. For mechanical concrete paving the bituminous concrete spreaders have been adjusted/specially modified/. Under development there is a concrete slip-form paver. The pavements of rolled concrete, compacted with vibratory rollers are also being performed.(a) for the covering abstracts of the congress see IRRD 812115 and 812116.
