VIBRATORY COMPACTION OF ASPHALT PAVEMENTS
VIBRERING AV ASPFALTBELAGEGGNINGAR
This booklet is meant to be a manual, and includes chapters on the properties of bituminous pavements, necessary equipment, theory of compaction costs, practical advice and fields of application. The use of vibratory compaction has increased rapidly all over the world. Some reasons for this are: 1. It gives a higher degree of compaction which results in increased strength and stability, good wearability and low permeability. 2. The capacity of vibrating rollers is superior to that of dead weight rollers. 3. Vibrating rollers are versatile and can be used on various thicknesses of layers and different types of pavements. 4. Vibrating tandem rollers work according to simple patterns which ensure equal compaction over the whole surface. The joints between old and new strips of pavement can be thoroughly compacted. /TRRL/
