WOODLEY AND EARLEY MASTER PLAN. INTERIM REPORT

The area comprising Woodley and Earley is described in physical, economic and social terms and various strategies are examined for the area's development. Surveys undertaken to collect information on the social characteristics of residents and their activities, and the traffic movements in the area are discussed. The constraints on development such as the green belt, agricultural land and the Heathrow Airport noise corridor are outlined along with some of the opportunities that the area offers in terms of communications and recreational facilities. Two levels of development are explored and the aims and objectives of development listed. The sub-regional context for growth is also examined. Plans are produced for employment, housing, shopping, education and social facilities which have these two alternative levels of development as their basis. Detailed plans are presented with particular attention given to transport. Car ownership is projected, a transport model is used to show movements in the area, and the transportation system is described, concluding with proposed highway networks for maximum and minimum developments.
