HIGHWAY HEROES WIDEAWAKE
Award winners in the Highway Hero program sponsored by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company are featured in this article which describes what they did to merit the awards. Tommy Smith was honored as America's National Highway Hero for 1988-89. With 29 years of experience, the quick thinking, alert Smith rescued two crash victims in Ohio. Smith believes that drug testing for truck drivers and stricter inspections for trucks will help make the highways safer. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation courses for professional drivers would be desirable. Other award winners also receive mention.
