DUMP TRUCKS--BIG OR BIGGER? PROCEEDINGS OF THE 74TH ANNUAL ROAD SCHOOL HELD AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY, MARCH 8-10, 1988
Responses to questions posed by Don Lucas, Indiana Department of Highways, at last year's meeting are presented. It was found that tandem truck fleets are cheaper than single vehicles for specific tasks, require fewer trucks for hauling, have larger hauling capacity, are labor savers and can best be used in ten maintenance activities; contracting for snow removal and sealing activities both proved to be more costly than having the states handle these tasks; and tandem axle gas trucks cost $26.20 per hour while single axle trucks cost $21.58 per hour.
