PREVENTION OF SAMPLE DETERIORATION

A simple sample compressor has been devised to restore the in-situ vertical effective stress in a sample. Specimens of reconstituted kaolin were subjected to a series of unconsolidated undrained triaxial compression tests to determine the effect of storage on their modulus and strength. The compressor was found to eliminate the potentially serious deterioration of a specimen up to a week.
