CARBURETOR ENGINE CONTROL UNIT
For an engine to function at full capacity, it is necessary to optimize the mixture of intake air and fuel (A/F) in response to continuous fluctuations in driving conditions. Until now, the quantity of intake air has been controlled by several solenoid valves for ON-OFF operation. The authors have developed a highly accurate carburetor control unit which controls the quantity of intake air by the use of a linear solenoid. The control unit receives information about oxygen concentration, vacuum pressure, engine revolution, vehicle velocity and other sensors, then judges driving conditions by calculating these values and determining each actuator's operation. In this way, the control unit decreases injurious emissions of exhaust gas and improves fuel consumption and drivability. Additionally, the unit continuously monitors all sensors and actuators and causes a warning lamp to light and starts failsafe functions for maintaining safety if a fault is detected.
