DIRECT CORRELATIONS BETWEEN PIEZOCONE TEST RESULTS AND UNDRAINED SHEAR STRENGTH OF CLAY
Laboratory test results along with piezocone penetration test data for 11 clayey soils were studied. For a given effective overburden stress overconsolidation ratio was found to have the strongest effect on the piezocone teets results. Direct empirical correlation between piezocone test results and undrained shear strength, when the effect of OCR is taken into account, appears to be a valid procedure for estimating undrained shear strength of clays.
