HOW TO PROTECT BRIDGES FROM SALT CORROSION
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Interim Report entitled "Further Improvements in Cathodic Protection," June 1987, FHWA/RD-87/062, evaluates eight different anode systems for cathodic protection of bridges. This article summarizes those evaluations. The eight systems are coke asphalt, non-overlay or slotted systems, CPC mound and concrete overlay, Raychem Ferex 100 Anode, Eltech Elgard Anode, Porter DAC-85 conductive coating, zinc metallized coating, and spray-painted CPC.
