A PILOT STUDY OF PAVEMENT PERMEABILITY AND SOIL STRUCTURE --14TH ARRB CONFERENCE, 28 AUGUST - 2 SEPTEMBER, 1988, CANBERRA, ACT, AUSTRALIA; PROC. PARTS 1 - 8
The performance of many naturally occurring pavement materials is strongly dependent on their moisture content and confident use of such materials requires an ability to predict likely in service moisture conditions. In the critical outer edges of a pavement, moisture conditions are largely controlled by the relative permeability of the shoulder, base and subgrade materials. This report presents the results of a survey of the permeability and soil structure of a number of naturally occurring base course and subgrade materials in rural roads in western Australia. The effect of soil structure on permeability and means by which the former may be controlled during construction to reduce permeability are discussed (a).
