LOTUS 1-2-3 IN PSC U-SLAB BRIDGE DESIGN --14TH ARRB CONFERENCE, 28 AUGUST - 2 SEPTEMBER, 1988, CANBERRA, ACT, AUSTRALIA; PROC. PARTS 1 - 8

The lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet has recently been used for structural design purposes within the road construction authority's (RCA) bridge design group, particularly in designing prestressed concrete (psc) u slabs (inverted 'U' shape). The aim is to investigate designs for 1160 mm wide psc u slabs ranging in depth from 240 mm to 800 mm for simple supported spans from 6 to 22 metres. The electronic worksheet is more user friendly, convenient and faster in carrying out sensitivity analysis with many different variables than basic or FORTRAN type programs. Graphic display of results is also available. It is necessary to consider the sensitivity of varying parameters such as: the number, size and locations of tendons; concrete strengths of deck and u slab; temperature effects; and other factors. This study was undertaken in order to assess alternative superstructure types for use by the RCA (a). For the covering record of the conference, see IRRD no 808936.
