"BETADRAIN" ROAD PAVEMENTS ON THE SESTRI LEVANTI-LIVORNO MOTORWAY

PAVCIMENTAZIONE STRADALE DRENANTE TIPO "BETADRAIN" SULLA AUTOSTRADA SESTRI LEVANTI-LIVORNO

This article describes an open graded "drainage" surfacing experimentally layed on a section of the a12 sestri levanti-livorno motorway. The mixture comprises a basalt aggregate, washed river sand, and an 80/100 bitumen binder modified with 7% of a bitumen-resin copolymer called betaplast. The resulting product had 20% effective voids and a tensile strength comparable with that of a traditional closed carpet.
