ACOUSTIC SCATTERING BY DOUBLE THIN HIGHWAY NOISE BARRIERS ---INTERNOISE 84. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR NOISE CONTROL. PROCEEDINGS 1984 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NOISE CONTROL ENGINEERING, HONOLULU, HAWAII, 3-5 DECEMBER 1984, VOLUMES 1 AND 2.

A theoretical modelling approach to analysing acoustic diffraction by double, thin parallel highway barriers separated by some distance is described. It involves the method of images and uses both the t-matrix method and the finite element eigenfunction method (feem). Details of calculated results and indications of results from tests using 1:5 scale models are given. The measured excess attenuation (ea) appears to agree well with those predicted although there are indications that there is need for improvement of the feem scheme for sound receivers in close proximity to the barrier. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 816933.
