AN INTEGRATED DATA SET FOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNING IN SWITZERLAND --TRANSPORTATION PLANNING METHODS. PROCEEDINGS OF SEMINAR C HELD AT THE PTRC SUMMER ANNUAL MEETING, BATH UNIVERSITY ENGLAND, 7-11 SEPTEMBER 1987, VOLUME P290

The quality of transportation planning heavily relies on the quality of underlying data. In practice, transportation planning is quite often confronted with the fact, that information needed for analysis is to be found in different data sets with no straightforward method to combine these into an integrated data set. The Swiss transport and energy department (eved) experienced this situation being confronted with the question that income price and velocity elasticities have major effects on travel demand and land use patterns. Eved, thus, decided to integrate all relevant data sets into one data set which contains all the information needed to carry out the analysis. The paper presented will give an overview of the state of the art in "data merging" and will give some examples from social sciences. Furthermore, the design for the Swiss integrated data set (sid) will be shown, results will be presented. The analytic potential of sid will be compared with other data sets, and an outline for future integrative work on data for transportation planning will be elaborated. This paper is presented in an abstract form. For the covering abstract of the seminar see IRRD 816404.
