THE BICYCLE NETWORK OF DELFT, INFLUENCE ON TRIP-LEVEL, NETWORK USE AND ROUTE CHOICE OF CYCLISTS ---PROCEEDINGS VELO CITY 87 INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS. PLANNING FOR THE URBAN CYCLIST, MARTINIHAL CENTRE GRONINGEN, NETHERLANDS, 22-26 SEPTEMBER, 1987.

In the municipality of Delft a bicycle network enhancement plan has been launched, aimed at encouraging bicycle use and improving cycling conditions. The improvements and new provisions for the cyclists are located and designed in such a way that a hierarchical bicycle network was created, consisting of a course sub network of high quality city level routes, and a fine system of local provisions. The Delft bicycle network plan introduces a number of innovative features in traffic planning. In this paper detailed results are presented of changes in trip level, changes in route choice and network use, and changes in bicycle volumes. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 816307.
