TTI GRANTS LICENSE TO MARKET GUARDRAIL
A patented guardrail terminal design developed by Texas Transportation Institute will shortly be marketed. The new system, the ET-2000 is a significant safety breakthrough. Its design includes a metal bender that fits on the end of the guardrail. When an automobile hits the guardrail, the metal bender slides along the rail causing the metal to curl back away from the vehicles. The bending of the rail absorbs the energy allowing the vehicle to move the metal bender back as the guardrail 'peels off' to the side. ET-2000 provides excellent performance at a relatively low cost.
