MICROMPUTER-AIDED TRANSPORT PLANNING
In the past few decades there have been considerable changes in computer hardware. Reductions in size, increasing ratios of efficiency to cost, and graphics capabilities have induced many planners to purchase microcomputer systems. Associated with this growth is the development of software procedures for aiding transport planners. Computer aided-planning (cap) is enabling planners to make more informed decisions and investigate wider scenarios more rigorously. Some of the developments in software that are occurring are discussed. These developments are illustrated with reference to computer-aided transport planning. Parallel developments can be found in many other planning areas. Future developments are also discussed.(a)
