STRENGTHENING OF AN OVERPASS BY MEANS OF PRESTRESSING CABLES
RINFORZO DI UN CAVALCAVIA CON CAVI CAP
Repair works which reduce traffic on a structure, or for which it is entirely closed to traffic, provide a good opportunity to assess the static condition of the structure and analyse how it behaved under traffic after some years of operation. This article presents the data collected during the strengthening, by means of prestressing cables, of a dual carriageway overpass on the intersection of rome's great ring road where it crosses the via appia. Water infiltration, excessive vibration, voids, loss of cable tension, corrosion and oxidisation of reinforcement, were amongst the defects identified and measured by oscillograph, electromagnetic and thermovisual methods.
