REPEATED-STAGE SIGNAL CONTROL USING MOVA
This paper describes the trial of a revised stage sequence at a signal-controlled junction, where the main-road stage received two separate greens per cycle of the signals. This technique is by no means new, but, equally, it is infrequently used. Results are presented showing the benefits of repeated-stage control compared with normal single-stage operation at a major trunk-road site. Also given is some theory suggesting a simple calculation to predict the net benefits of repeat-stage control. Together, it is hoped that information will assist traffic engineers to decide whether the use of this technique is likely to be appropriate elsewhere.
