PIPELINE DEFORMATION MONITORING USING GPS SURVEY TEFCHNIQUES
A study is described which attempted to develop methods and processing techniques to enable the detection of pipeline movements over time at the 1-2 cm level. It is hoped that it will be possible to do this on a continuous basis from a remote location. A case study of the applilcation of Global Positioning System (GPS) for pipeline deformation is presented. The paper detais a survey performed on a pipeline in a geotechnically unstable area using both GPS and precise conventional techniques for position determination. Subsequent data sets will indicate if there is pipeline movement. Comparisons of the two independent survey data sets are made for verification of the GPS results. study
