TRACKING HEAVY-CAR IMPACT

The prospect that 125-ton freight cars will become the norm in the near future has brought about concerns as to the effect that the use of these heavier cars will have on track maintenance. There is a good deal of speculation as to the impact on the track and maintenance costs that the use of these cars will have so most maintenance officers are watching testing programs and gathering data prior to delving in head first.
