ARTICULATION FOR A COAL CAR

Described is the new articulated hopper car, the HighCube IIQD, which can handle 50 percent more coal and has 10,000 pounds more weight than a conventional car. The design resulted from a covered hopper design for AAR's track/train dynamics program and consists of a 125 ton center truck using the new vertical isolator pad, electropneumatic Auto MEC Quick Discharge System which consists of five gates for each unit, an aluminum body on steel underframe with through center sill and weighs 62,500 pounds.
