MANAGING SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN YOUR COMPANY
Possible drug abuse policies (employee assistance programs for helping them to overcome their problem, informing the authorities, firing individuals using, selling or possessing controlled substances while on the job, disciplinary actions); drug testing techniques (surveillance cameras, undercover operations, trained dogs to detect drug and alcohol scents); employee actions when abusing either alcohol and/or drugs (absenteeism, less productivity, bloodshot or watery eyes, runny nose or sores around nostrils, wearing of sunglasses indoors regardless of the season); areas on the job where substance abuse occurs most often (restrooms, lounge areas, lunchrooms near trucks and vendors, parking lots, and meeting rooms); types of tests (urine, blood, breath, and brain waves); as well as rules for supervisors to follow when job performance levels need improvement are among the items described.
