GLOUCESTERSHIRE COMPLETES PHASE ONE OF A COMPREHENSIVE COMPUTER-BASED HIGHWAY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Gloucestershire County Council's road management information system (romis) is described briefly in this paper. Romis will be a comprehensive system providing managers with the information they require to identify and control maintenance work and resources on the ground. It will also provide feedback on conditions to measure performance and thus enable the policy on standards to be assessed. It will be based on SIA's SIR database management system and rmms+ running on a Honeywell BUU DPS88. As well as inventory, and inspection and condition assessment, other sources of data affecting the highway network will be related together using the system. These include street lighting, traffic accidents, road diary, tara, and budgetary control. Allowance for graphical interrogation and presentation of data related to the network, and for digitised maps is also planned. (TRRL)
