IMPROVING HOUSTON'S TRANSITWAYS
Houston is building the most extensive transitway program in the country. By 1990, over 69 miles of transitways will be in operation along five freeway corridors. Currently, Houston has approximately 20 miles of operational transitways. Since the first transitway became operational in 1979, changes have warranted improvements to the system. Those revisions may be a result of change in basic criteria, operational experience, interagency cooperation and definition of responsibility, and regional transit plan development.
