TRAFFIC SAFETY IN RENOVATED URBAN AREAS
VERKEERSVEILIGHEID IN STADSVERNIEUWINGSGEBIEDEN
An inventory of research into specific problems of traffic safety in reconstructed and redesigned urban areas is mentioned in the Dutch national plan for traffic safety. The purpose of this study is to determine how traffic safety deviates in reconstructed and redesigned urban areas in comparison to other urban areas. The relationships between traffic safety and characteristics which are specific for such areas are studied. The first part of the study, made in 1986, is an analysis of those problems in the field of traffic safety specific for such areas, in categories of nature and cause. The second part of the study, published in 1987, is a further quantification and qualification of the relationship between problems of space, the frequency by which these areas are used, and traffic safety.
