IMPROVED OPERATION OF URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS. VOLUME I TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL STRATEGIES - A STATE OF THE ART
The computer is increasingly being used as part of traffic control equipment. Digital computers, off-line signal timing optimization techniques and real-time response control systems are examples of computer technology at work in traffic control. The objective of this project was to study, develop and evaluate existing and new traffic signal control strategies. The results should include valuable information for the traffic viability of computer traffic control, real time traffic responsive control strategies, application of various control techniques under various conditions and placement and density of traffic sensors. This report deals specifically with the traffic signal timing strategies aspect.
