RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN PREDICTING BALLAST LIFE AND ECONOMICS

Recent ballast research that supports purchasing decisions and the development of an engineering and economic model for determining ballast life and maintenance costs are discussed in this report. An improved AREA ballast specification is called for and alternatives are discussed.
