FEATURES OF VARIOUS OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
The growing shortages of suitable waterfront sites for industrial complexes transportation facilities, marine terminals, and recreation, and the increasing concern to preserve our natural coastal environment, and the continuing need to obtain the advantages of such locations had forced a consideration of artificial means to satisfy this need. In addition, the economics of larger-capacity, deeper-draft vessels have out-moded our present U.S. harbors and possible coastal sites for these newer ships. This report provides a means of comparison for various offshore structures for the technical, environmental, and economic aspects through the classification and identification of some existing structures.
