A POLICY ON DESIGN STANDARDS - INTERSTATE SYSTEM
This report contains design standards for the interstate highway system under the following headings: General; Design Traffic; Right-of-Way (right-of-way and control of access); Geometric Controls and Criteria (design speed, sight distance, curvature and superelevation, and gradients); Cross Section Elements (number of lanes, width of traffic lanes, shoulders, pavement and shoulder cross slope, sideslopes, medians, horizontal clearance to obstructions, and curbs); Interchanges; and Bridges and Other Structures (general, vertical clearance, cross section, structural capacity, bridges to remain, and tunnels).
