SINGLE-VEHICLE ACCIDENTS AND ROAD BARRIERS

EN ANALYSE AV UTFORKJORINGSULYKKER 1967 (PART 1). UTFORKJORINGSULYKKER OG VEGEKKVERKI ET LITTERATURSTUDIUM (PART 2)

All single-vehicle total and injury accidents in Norway in 1967 (approx. 800) are analyzed in order to find characteristic data about the road conditions: road surface; road geometry; weather and light-conditions; the objects causing the accident and their distance from the carriageway; driver age, sex, driving experience; and the vehicle make, type, age, technical failures causing or contributing to the accident. Criteria were developed from these accidents for expected forces on road barriers put up at these locations. These dimensional forces were used as a guide in the process of selecting suitable road barriers on the basis of literature study of test reports, etc. The selection of types was made dependent on available distance from road barrier to the point of danger.
