ROAD AND COMPUTERS --PIARC XVIII WORLD ROAD CONGRESS, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, SEPTEMBER 13-19, 1987

This report outlines the history of the computer in the ministry of public works in Belgium and its use in road administration. Details are given of: (1) the road administration policy and the setting up of the agar project (automation of management in road administration); (2) road data base, its content and use; (3) use of computer aided design (cad) for mapping and road projects; (4) the delta project which represents the first general application of automation to some administrative procedures of road administration; (5) the soger project which analyzes future road conditions for maintenance purposes; (6) the traffic project which aims at total integrated computerization in the graphic processing of junctions, processing of road census data, processing of traffic permits for heavy vehicles and search for suitable itineraries, and processing of all technical administrative dossiers.
