TECHNICAL COMMITTEE REPORT ON SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS --PIARC XVIII WORLD ROAD CONGRESS, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, SEPTEMBER 13-19, 1987

This report presents the committee and describes the activities of the latter in the following fields: road pavement macrotexture and its measurement, development of methods of measuring pavement evenness, evenness of pavements under construction, assessment of the specifications and how to meet them, recent progress in the measurement of skid resistance and improvement procedures, road traffic noise, influence of surface characteristics on the operation costs and fuel consumption of vehicles, surface characteristics of urban pavements, and optimization of surface characteristics.
