COMPARISON BETWEEN COMPUTER SIMULATIONS AND SCALE MODEL TESTS OF SUBWAY TUNNEL AIR FLOW
The purpose of this report is to describe the validation of the aerodynamic theory in the subway environment simulation (SES) computer program, using data from the subway aerodynamic and thermodynamic test (SAT) scale-model facility. Direct comparisons of measured and theoretical vehicle aerodynamic drag and piston-action air flows are presented for both single train and bi-directional train operations, with and without tunnel venting.
