DEVELOPMENT OF ANTHRACITE OPEN-PIT HAULAGE SYSTEMS
The development and analysis of highly productive haulage systems for the anthracite industry in Eastern Pennsylvania was completed in the report. A literature survey and field survey were completed for two mine sizes in Eastern Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The analysis showed a combined system, using rail cars and skip hoists (i.e. rail-hoist), to be the only viable alternative to a truck haulage system. The rail-hoist system provided variable cost savings for capital investment and operating costs, depending on the projected size of the mine.
