CHILD RESTRAINT PROGRAMME EVALUATION: A RESEARCH REPORT

A survey was conducted amongst 300 parents in metropolitan Adelaide with children aged under 16. This survey forms part of an evaluation of the child restraint programme developed by the road safety division to assess the effectiveness of the programme so far and to assist the development of new directions and activities. The report includes discussions of: 1) knowledge of the details of child restraint laws; 2) recall of the recent "belt your kids" publicity campaign; 3) self reported behavioural change; 4) attitudes of parents to seat belt use; 5) attitudes to strengthening present child restraint laws; and 6) perceptions of enforcement of child restraint laws.
