WIDE AREA VEHICLE MONITORING (WAVM) SYSTEM PROJECT FOR ONTARIO'S TRUCKING INDUSTRY. 1986 ANNUAL CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS VOLUME 3
A wavm system has been developed which will provide vehicle position data and two-way communications service between the equipped trucks and the trucking company's base station. The wavm system will make use of three principal technologies: 1) the navstar global positioning system (gps), a continuous, all weather worldwide satellite navigation system, 2) the msat (mobile satellite) communications network, and 3) cellular radio technology. This paper details wavm technology and describes a demonstration project which is evaluating potential wavm applications in the Ontario trucking industry. (TRRL)
