CARGO DATA INTERCHANGE SYSTEM (CARDIS) FEASIBILITY REVIEW

Through its close relationship with industry, the National Committee for International Trade Documentation has been able to provide those data elements primarily used in international trade and those functions considered priority for inclusion in the Cargo Data Interchange System. Emphasis has been placed on those data elements which are used repetitively and therefore are feasible for storage in a data base and can be re-used without the need for re-entry for multiple functions or shipments. Functions which are considered priority for the initial configuration of the system include those concerned with the actual movement of goods, receipt of delivery, transfer of title or responsibility, and final arrival of goods at destination. Preferences for other functions are indicated for modular development of the system. The need for continuing liaison with developing foreign systems is stressed to reduce any interface problems.
