THE MAINTENANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF REGULAR ROADS (III). THE TECHNOLOGY OF MAINTENANCE AND ADMINISTRATION. MANAGEMENT AND TECHNIQUES OF ROAD MAINTENANCE - REPORT OF A SEMINAR-CUM-STUDY TOUR, JAPAN, 24 OCTOBER TO 2 NOVEMBER 1984

This paper deals with the damage and deterioration of both flexible and rigid pavements, and presents a pavement serviceability (psi) formula for the evaluation of road surfaces. The formula is based on the standard deviation of longitudinal unevenness, the crack ratio, and the average rut depth. The main maintenance and repair methods described are patching; surface treatments (sealing coats, slurries, and resins); partial replacement; overlays; cut and replacement; and replacement. Damage to bridges, and suitable remedial measures are also discussed. For covering abstract see IRRD 810717. (TRRL)
