DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTI USER CLASS EQUILIBRIUM ASSIGNMENT MODEL. TRANSPORTATION PLANNING RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM 1987, EIGHT MILLION CARS IN 2010, THE HAGUE, NOVEMBER 26-27, 1987

ONTWIKKELING VAN EEN EVENWICHTSTOEDELINGSMODEL VOOR MEERDERE VOERTUIGEN

The objective of this research is to develop an algorithm for simultaneous equilibrium assignment for a number of shipping categories, taking into account interactions, congestion and the differences in accessibility. In the early 70's a shipping model has been developed, but in fact Wardrop's equilibrium was never reached. Therefore, we have decided to develop a multi user class equilibrium algorithm. It has been tested using several small networks. The results have been reviewed on the speed of convergence and on the fulfillment of Wardrop's first principle. The main conclusions are: the algorithm developed allows for a simultaneous equilibrium assignment; the travel time functions originally developed do not meet the requirements for a converging process; the ship-equivalencies originally used not only differ between shipping categories but also between linktypes, which obstructs a converging process.
